New data released today shows that last year food banks in the Trussell Trust network provided 186,185 three-day emergency food parcels to people in crisis; 78,536 of these went to children.
That’s a 44% higher than the monthly average for 2018-19.
Just weeks ago, we published figures for April to September 2019, showing there has already been a 23% increase in the number of food parcels provided compared to the same period in 2018. We’re worried this suggests the lead up to this Christmas will see more people needing support than ever before.
No one should need to use a food bank – at Christmas or any other time of the year.
Kind peoples support has made a real difference to people across the UK and if you can help any more in the run up to Christmas, they would really appreciate it.
