Watford mother left children in car on the Hottest day so far

A woman left her children aged 7, 3, and 1 in a car for 40 minutes so that she could go shopping while temperatures outside hit 30°C on Monday.

Police officers were called to Waterfields Retail Park where they found and spoke to the mother.

"Strong words of advice" were given to a mother who left her three children in a car on one of the hottest days of the year, police have said.

Shoppers called Hertfordshire Police at 12:40 GMT on Monday, after spotting the children, aged seven, three and one, in the car at a retail park in Watford.

A Hertfordshire Police spokesman said: 'Police were called at 12.40pm on Monday to Waterfields Retail Park in Watford to reports of concerns for the welfare of children that had been left in a car. Officers attended and the mother was located. Strong words of advice were given to the woman.'

A spokesperson for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children said: "When young children left alone in a vehicle, they can very quickly start to get anxious and distressed".
