Herts police report the multi-agency training event has been hailed a success.

A specialised exercise took place Today Saturday, at Watford Football Club on Saturday 7 October between multi-agency partners.

People called into the police worried a real shooting had happend.

Even though ahead of the session the force had written to local residents living around the club and contacted local media to inform them it was taking place to alleviate concerns and divert people away from clogging up the 999 system.

A large number of vehicles where stationed on Vicarage Road right outside the Hornets Team shop. Other personnel and volunteers were in the vicinity of the club from the late morning until the early afternoon.

The fracture clinic at Watford General Hospital was setup as an A&E department for the purpose of the exercise only.

Sally Tucker, the trust’s chief operating officer, said: "Our staff are extremely well trained to respond to emergency situations and this exercise provides us with another excellent training opportunity to test our resilience to critical and major incidents. We look forward to working closely with our emergency services partners."

Chief Superintendent, Richard Liversidge, who is leading on the exercise for the police said: “It is going to be a busy and demanding exercise and we do not want people living nearby to be concerned if they hear bangs and the sounds of firearms being discharged – it’s all part of the training.

"No live ammunition will be used and a number of volunteers will be play-acting as injured to make the exercise as real as possible for those being trained.

Richard added: “We hope you will appreciate that the emergency services need to take advantage of all kinds of opportunities to test and learn about different ways to respond to incidents and we are extremely grateful to Watford Football for lending us their facilities.
