New Taller Fire Engines arrive in UK

Since the Grenfell disaterous attempts to dowse the Tower flames, new taller machines have been sought after.

A lack of suitable equipment, low water pressure and radio problems hindered the response to the Grenfell Tower disaster, firefighters who attended the scene have said.

The Aerial Ladder Platform was loaned from Surrey as there is not one in London.

 

Appliances currently owned by the London brigade can only ascend up to 32m (105ft) and could not reach the upper floors of the block.

 

According to MirrorOnline, the £700,000 the 'Aerial Ladder Platform' can reach heights of up to 42m (137ft). Yet it was unable to reach the top floors of the 24-storey Grenfell Tower, which stands at nearly 70m (230ft).

 

Commissioner Dany Cotton told the BBC it was "one of my priorities" to get taller fire trucks and "early conversations" had already been held. the LFB is considering buying talleraerial platforms.

 

With a Hotpoint fridge-freezer identified as the initial cause of the Grenfell Tower blaze in June. Between 2010 and 2016 there have been nine fatalities and 298 injuries as a result of fires involving white goods in London. This does not include those who died in the Grenfell fire as the causes of these fatalities are subject to an inquest.– register your appliances
